Not sure which pen type to try?
Don’t worry! So many people have opinions about whether dip pen and ink are more beginner friendly, but in truth, they’re just as great as each other. Sure, both have a technique to master, but as a beginner, you could comfortably choose either! The first tutorial is the pen set up, so you can get comfortable with your pen technique before we even put ink to paper.

Pen Set Up – whether you choose to learn dip pen or brush pen calligraphy we’ll start by setting up your pen and mastering the technique to create the thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes that are the hallmarks of modern calligraphy
Warm Up Drills – Just like when doing any exercise, the warm up is key, calligraphy is no different! Build muscle memory so your strokes become smooth, consistent and confident.
Lower Case Alphabet – learn step by step how to create your lower case alphabet, focusing on each letter’s formation
Upper Case Alphabet – once you have mastered your lower case alphabet, we’ll move on to form our upper case letters
Numbers and Punctuation – many courses don’t include this (or worse, call it a bonus!) but I’ve included this as one of my core tutorials, because let’s face it, you’re going to need them!

Frequently Asked Questions
What skill level do I need to have to enjoy the course?
None, the course is designed for beginners and start with the absolute basics. We’ll take it step by step to go from pen set up and making initial strokes on the page, through to creating each letter and focusing on your formation and spacing, joining letters together to make words, so you feel confident writing quotes, sentences or longer pieces with ease.
Does it matter if I’ve learned before?
Not at all! You’ll still find my step by step approach helpful to make sure your skills are embedding, and to recap on anything you feel rusty with. If you’ve not learned modern calligraphy before, you’ll find the style a little different to some more traditional styles.
Do you teach other styles of calligraphy?
Not right now, I choose to specialise in modern calligraphy. If you would like to learn another style, there are other calligraphy teachers out there who will be better placed to help you learn.
What kit or materials will I need?
I’ll provide you with a list of what you need in your workbook – you will have instant access to this when you purchase. It’s detailed enough that you won’t need to spend ages searching for what to buy.
What time commitment is needed to learn?
There’s no timescale to learning, you can work at a pace to suit you and fit in with your lifestyle. You can complete an individual tutorial in 10-15 minutes or binge the entire course in around 2 hours. The On Demand style of learning means you can revisit the tutorials whenever you need a refresh.
What do you mean by lifetime access?
You will have access to Calligraphy for Beginners On Demand for the lifetime of the course (as opposed to however long you or I have left on this Earth!) There are no plans to withdraw the course as this is my signature course…and one I’m really proud of!
How does it differ from your in person workshops?
