It’s almost Halloween and if you’re looking at your decorations feeling like something is missing, you probably need a personalised faux calligraphy pumpkin.
Whether you are personalising your pumpkin with a spooky phrase or personalising it with a name, you can be sure this is really quick and easy project with zero mess. No carving, no pumpkin guts!
All you need to personalise your pumpkin is a marker pen. I favour a Posca pen for the job as they come in so many colours and nib thicknesses, as well as being easy to find in lots of shops as well as online, Black provides really good contrast against the orange pumpkin skin but get creative and choose your favourite colourway.

When you’re ready to start, look over your pumpkin for the best surface to write on. As with all vegetables, they have their imperfections and varying levels of wonkiness so take the time to see where is best to write on your pumpkin so you have maximum writing space. Then before you start writing, wipe over your pumpkin with a clean, damp cloth to take away any dirt or oils so you have the best surface to write on.
When you start to write on your pumpkin, I would recommend writing in monoline calligraphy first, then thickening out your downstrokes afterwards. If you have a mix of calligraphy and block capitals (like mine) you might also benefit from writing your calligraphy word first, then writing your block capitals afterwards so you know how best to position them above.
Once you’re done, all that’s left to do is work out the perfect place to display your pumpkin! It really is that quick and easy to create!
