The Perfect Calligraphy  Christmas Tree Card – We Wish You a Merry Christmas Indeed!

Christmas Tree Modern Calligraphy calligram card design tutorial

Did you know this is my absolute favourite card design to create?

If you’re looking to use your calligraphy skills on your Christmas cards, get creative and make a really simple tree calligram with this beautiful ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ card.

Just like in my tutorial (find the link at the bottom of this post to watch on You Tube) I love to create it with Dr PH Martin’s Bleedproof White – it looks striking on Christmas red or green, or maybe try it on navy or even kraft cardstock; you won’t be disappointed.

When you create it for the first time, I would recommend drawing out your six, evenly spaced guidelines in pencil first to help you to position your tree, as well as an additional vertical line down the centre of the card. I tend to favour ‘We’ sitting about one quarter of the way down the card.

Then it’s as simple as writing your phrase on each line:

  1. We
  2. Wish
  3. You a
  4. Merry
  5. Christmas

The trick is to make sure you have even characters and spacing either side of your vertical centre line. To help you perfect your positioning, I’ve also created an easy free template for you to use – you can download it here. Choose if you want to have your text sitting straight on the page, or if it gently curves up in a very slight smile as you move down the lines.

Once you have written your phrase, all you need to do it add a small star at the top (if you have gold ink, this adds a beautiful accent, but looks equally pretty in the same colour as your lettering) and finish with a small trunk/pot.

If you choose to try this design this Christmas, tag me into your photos so I can see how you got on!
