Easter egg place settings…made with real eggs

Did you know you can write directly onto eggs? I know, I was surprised too when I tried it but it works perfectly!

If you’re looking for a quirky, slightly rustic place setting this Easter, this is such a quick, easy make to try…and best of all, you can still use and eat the eggs afterwards.

Now, the technical bit: I found that a thicker ink works better for writing on eggs so, as you can see, I have used Dr PH Martin’s Bleedproof White ink. It dries slightly raised, and also contrasts really well against the eggshell. I’d recommend using a more robust nib like a Brause 361 Blue Pumpkin to do the job to make sure you have the control you need when writing on the eggshell.

As always, go nice and slow as you write to make sure you have the level of control you need to write on the eggshell – if you have extra eggs in, you might benefit from trying on an egg you don’t need to use as a place name so you can test writing on the surface first. You can apply normal pressure with the nib – testing on another egg first will reassure you of this.
